If I could give a 6th star I would. I was looking for a great place to get breakfast and get some work done because the internet in my short term rental was not great, and Lutunji’s Palate saved the day. The vegan breakfast sandwich and chai that I had started my day just right and Ms. Lutnji was such a kind and welcoming person that clearly prepared my food with love. I ended up getting a vegan lunch sandwich and soup before I left and both were equally delicious. Don’t miss Lutunji’s Palate!

Lutunji’s Palate: A Culinary Testimony Worth the Wait November 2025 After years of anticipation, I finally made my way to Lutunji’s Palate—and let me tell you, it was worth every moment of the wait. From the moment I walked in, I felt the warmth of a space built on love, legacy, and unapologetic flavor. I ordered the turkey pastrami breakfast sammich, and what arrived was nothing short of divine. Layers of tender turkey pastrami, peppery arugula, sweet peppers and a fried egg. Let me tell you the symphony of other flavors came together in perfect harmony. But Wait Now – included with the sandwich was a tiny container of sauce. People, it wasn’t just a sandwich—it was a sermon on a plate. The kind of meal that makes you pause mid-bite and whisper, “Oh My Lawd!” But the real altar call came with the peach cobbler. I ordered an entire pan for the upcoming holiday. Lutunji’s peach cobbler is a revelation: warm, buttery, perfectly spiced, with peaches that taste like they were handpicked by the ancestors. If you know, you know. If you don’t— ya betta go find out. In fact, my attendance at Thanksgiving is about to be legendary. I’m walking in with a full pan of Lutunji’s peach cobbler, and I already know—my family might snatch the pan and push me back out the door. That’s how powerful this cobbler is. It’s not just dessert. It’s currency. Lutunji’s Palate isn’t just a restaurant. It’s a celebration of Black excellence, culinary artistry, and community-rooted joy. I left full, affirmed, and already plotting my return. -Ya’ll Don’t Hear Me - You Betta Get Over There 1400 Park Avenue, Ste 1010, Minneapolis, MN

It was high time to visit the neighborhood cafe, and WOW -- Scrumptious! At Lutunji's recommendation, I had the turkey pastrami breakfast sandwich. Fresh and delicious! And it only take about 5 seconds to understand that Lutunji is a major part of the fabric of our little corner of Downtown Minneapolis. Stay safe, folks. And stop HERE soon! We shall return!

I stopped by and was blown away by how friendly Lutunji was! She made me feel like the most important person there. The Paris peach latte is so delicious - it’s my new favorite drink!! I also got the amazing breakfast sandwich, nondairy smoothie, and of course, some of her peach cobbler! Another thing I love is that she has so many vegan and non dairy options and takes it seriously! I feel safe eating here because I know I won’t get sick (allergic to casein). She has free educational books for kids too!

The service (particularly the wonderful woman who opened this neighborhood oasis of tenderly-made and crafted bites and desserts) is the #1 reason I love coming here. The owner clearly has a passion for healthy (and amazingly good) foods; it only took a single bite to know that the Oreo cheesecake (yummy!) is made with quality ingredients and in-house. I was shocked when she told me that the entire slice of cheesecake-- including the Oreo placed atop it--was 100% Vegan. I've had good and bad vegan dishes in Minneapolis, San Francisco, New York and overseas...the vegan cheesecake here isn't just better than most vegan options I've tried in these food capitals of the world: it was so delicious that I see no need to ever eat a non-Vegan slice ever again. East Downtown doesn't have many non-chain, independent spots to eat where the food and beverages are this good and prepared healthy and with tender care. The fact that what's on the menu here is good for you; promotes humane and sustainable techniques; absolutely delicious; and the same price as the premade, mass produced bland items found at all the national coffee chains? If you don't give this place a try, you're missing out on a gem. (And patronizing Lutunji's is also a terrific way to support locally-owned small businesses. When places like this succeed, others will follow. And that means everybody wins.) Out of four stars, I give her ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. Bravo!

Plenty of places can offer you a decent cup of coffee or a yummy omelette. NOT every place offers a warm, welcoming atmosphere and foundations rooted in love and community building. Oh. And a dash of throwback r&b music videos to activate some nostalgia. This place radiates the type of heart and soulfulness that our broken state of humanity needs. HONORED that I came across it and look forward to attending one of their open mics or block parties in future!

If there's a story of taking a love of food and combining it with a love of helping her community, then Lutunji certainly takes the cake.... or maybe the legendary peach cobbler, and most certainly the banana pudding With her savory deserts and how they've enabled her to empower youth and those who need help with a means of employment where others have failed, Lutunji not only brings her amazing sweets to some of the biggest local retailers in the Twin Cities but also provides local order ahead for family and corporate events of her tasty treats. Definitely will be at the top of my list for future events!

Hands down the best service I have ever received. My partner and I were walking the neighborhood when we were greeted by a kind woman who asked us about our morning. She then invited us inside for coffee we were then promptly and kindly served two amazing lattes at a fair price. After we explored around the shop and discovered not only was the service great but the message and purpose of this place was great too. It’s a noble business that has amazing resources to learn more about the community, local artist, black history and So many other things. Knowing this is in my neighborhood not only brightness my day knowing there’s a great cafe so close but proud of where I live knowing there’s business owners around here truly care about what they do and why the do it. It would be a sin to not mention the amazing food. When I say that it was genuinely one of the best breakfasts I’ve had I truly mean it. The beef bacon was OUTSTANDING, if you come in you need to get it. On top of this their eggs with cheese, peppers and onions are so simple but done perfectly. When something is cooked with love you know it and the food was drowning in it. The main ingredient in all food and drinks here is love and you can tell from your first step inside, first sip of coffee and last bite of food. I cannot recommend the place enough!

If you’re looking for a local restaurant that has some damn good food and drinks, get yourself down to Lutunji’s Palate! By far one of the best cafes in Minneapolis, with a flare for community building. Don’t miss out on their spoken word and poetry nights either!
