“We had spring rolls (the rolls were just okay, the dipping sauce was terrible), Banh Xeo (greasy and yet not even crispy, smelled like burnt oil), Glass Noodle Salad, Shrimp Toast (bread was borderline burnt and too greasy), Barramundi (this was actually not bad), and Kids Coconut Chicken (chicken was tough and dry and a bit burnt, you can make better chicken thighs in your home airfryer)”

Simply put, Hai Hai is a powerhouse of flavor. Our rating is based on sampling four dishes during a long weekend in Minneapolis during Art-A-Whirl. Our first meal was Indonesian Spice Grilled Pork and Blistered Pea & Radish Salad that were in combination a gastronomic treat. Our server was very helpful in guiding our selections and had the right touch of being personable and professional. The meal was so good, we had carryout the next night because we couldn’t get a last minute booking (no surprise). The Pepper Fried Tofu was a great start but we loved the Glass Noodle Salad with spices and seasonings that delighted our taste buds. Try the vegan coconut ice cream for a satisfying finish. Book early due to popularity.
We had a wonderful Happy Hour/Early dinner at Hai Hai celebrating two birthdays in our group of friends/family. We ordered every item on the Happy Hour menu. Our favorites were the Popcorn Chicken, Grilled Tofu and we loved the Wonton Nachos so much we ordered a second one. We also had the Hanoi Sticky Rice which was outstanding. Everyone in our group had a wonderful time, the food and service made it perfect.
Good flavors, interesting combinations. CHICKEN LAAB LETTUCE WRAPS are accompanied by watermelon radish, a delightful colorful radish; chicken combination is salty. Spring rolls are interesting and flavorful. I didn’t care for the dipping sauce, it left me confused and seemed like a clash rather than a compliment. Thai wok-tossed cabbage was quite good. I love cabbage. It has meat it it, and was a bit oily. Good though! HAT YAI FRIED CHICKEN was ordered by my friends and they both liked it. The suggestion was to take the wrap and dip it in sauce. Beef Rendang was a whole lot of flavor and delicious. Some of the beef had fat, but still really good. My vegetarian friend had the Hanoi sticky rice with mock duck, very well received. I had the only boozy drink which was the Buddha Boulevardier. It was served in a nice heavy tumbler, a beautiful glass which made the drink more enjoyable. I rarely imbibe, so it was a lovely treat which paired with the beef entree nicely. Finishing the night, we split the Guava-Lime Posset which is very good and also tart-sweet. The winner was the Warm bread pudding; inspiring jealous across the table. A wonderful meal for a group of five, we spent $219 total. Would I go back? Yes. I need to try those Khao soi wontons.
Excellent food and service. We had the water cakes and fried tofu with garlic for apps (exquisite), duck laab and hai fried chicken as mains (great) and a passion fruit posset for dessert (divine). Cocktails were all excellent and strong. Servers were knowledgeable and had great recommendations. Great option if you want 5 star food in a more casual setting.
Such a cool spot! The atmosphere feels like you’re on vacation and the staff were really nice. Sit at the bar and get the pandan slushie!! We loved the chicken entree.. such great flavors and perfect spice. The shrimp toast was spicy and dense.. One bite is enough but really good! The spring rolls and ribs were also delicious.
Had a nice dinner here! The service was great and helpful with choosing what to order. I didn’t really like the crispy rice salad that I got, but I think that’s just because I don’t care for lemongrass all that much and it really tasted of lemongrass. My husband liked it though. He said his rice bowl was delicious. I wish there was a vegetarian or pescatarian rice bowl option. I didn’t really care for the desserts that much either.
Awesome awesome food! The Adobo ribs were amazing very meaty with amazing char /crisp bites and tender meat. Also really enjoyed the shrimp toast and the shrimp in nim jam butter was amazing. The Ba non-alcoholic drink was so good my only wish was to add more of the house coconut cream which is sooooo creamy and good. If you like restaurants like twin cities restaurants like Gai Noi I believe you will equally enjoy this place. Great!
Googled places in Minneapolis with your Mocktails and Hai Hai was repeated recommended. I can absolutely see why. They opened at 4 and filled up very quickly, we ended up being too late for our res due to parking but they were still able to drag us with no wait. Excellent drink choices for alcohol and NA. The good was amazing, very vibrant, pleasantly spiced and portioned great for sharing. The adobo pork ribs along with the shrimp in nam jim butter are why I'll be back. Emma, our server, was wonderful. She took her time explaining everything, made sure we had no allergies and offered great recommendations for food and drink. Random but worthy of a mention- the water was good. I always bring my own bottle but didn't need it.
I visit Minneapolis once a year to see the Vikings play at US Bank and over time I’ve built quite a list of restaurants and eateries to try. This trip, I finally got to cross Hai Hai off that list. The place is lively and packed on a Saturday night so definitely make a reservation. The food is phenomenal. We ordered the tamarind pork ribs, sweet potatoes, barramundi green curry, and finished with the bread pudding for dessert. Every single dish was packed with flavor and not a crumb was left on any plate. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to an already great dining experience.
My wife and I had an excellent experience dining at the bar at Hai Hai. We shared the Murtabak and Khao Soi Chicken Wontons to start—both distinctive, layered with flavor, and thoughtfully executed. The Balinese Chicken Thigh was balanced and satisfying, followed by a Warm Bread Pudding that closed the meal on a comforting, well-judged note. Service was attentive and articulate, delivered with genuine passion that enhanced the evening without feeling intrusive. The atmosphere is cozy with a subtle tiki influence, reminiscent of their sister restaurant, Hola Arepa. For first-time visitors, the dishes above are a strong introduction—each unique, flavorful, and refreshing. It’s the kind of meal that invites a return.
