I had been dying to experience a vegan butcher shop and during my recent trip to Minneapolis, finally had my chance... and all I can say is, MORE!! We order some food to eat on site, it's not a restaurant, though there is some seating, which is awkward but the food more than made up for it. I ordered an Italian Cold Cut Sandwich, which I ate later (amazing), but on site my mom had the Hot Bacon Brat (hot means warn not spicy) with cheese (tried a bite and we both loved it), while I had the special, a Ranchy Bacon Mac Hot Panini (holy... ok I won't swear but you get the idea). I bought the Meat-Free snapback hat, a Nope T-shirt, The Herbivorous Butcher Cookbook and a selection of meats and cheeses to try at home, which included; Bacon Brats, Ribeye Steaks, Korean BBQ Ribs, Chicken, Maple Glazed Bacon, Garlic Pepper Havarti Cheese, Dill Havarti Cheese... absolute heaven!! The offerings are very well thought out and I can't wait to try the cook book recipes too.

I've been wanting to come here for years and finally I'm visiting and got my chance to check it out. Was not disappointed. I spent way too much money but I wasn't coming back through so damn near bought one of everything. I got the Hawaiian Pulled Pork Panini. Yummy. The Italian Cold Cut. Delicious. Then I bought Korean Jerky, Korean BBQ ribs, Maple Bacon, Maple Sage Breakfast Sausage, Fried Chicken Bites, and Brie cheese to try later. So far not disappointed with the jerky or the ribs. The textures and flavors are spot on. Very happy. They do ship but it's just easier to get it here.

If you're craving a delicious cold cut. without compromising your vegan lifestyle, look no further than Herbivorious deli. Their cold Italian cut sandwiches are to die for, bursting with flavor and packed with their very own meat. What sets this place apart is their house-made vegan meats, which are unbelievably delicious and satisfying. From savory seitan salami to mouthwatering plant-based prosciutto, each bite is a celebration of flavor and craftsmanship. Combined with their Hoagie roll and house-made sauce, every sandwich is a culinary masterpiece. Whether you're a committed vegan or just looking to explore plant-based options, this deli is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food done right. Get an extra for the road too!

Amazing vegan place, really affordable sandwiches, and an amazing selection of vegan meats. For someone who is sick of every restaurant just having a beyond burger or impossible burger this place is very refreshing and delicious. Sandwiches are about 12.50 for about a 10” long traditional sandwich on a French roll. And you can spend as much as you want on their specialty meats

How to describe the awesomeness of a vegan "butcher" shop? The fact that they even exist is a testament to the greatness of Minneapolis. The Herbivorous Butcher has the feel of a traditional butcher shop, but without all the blood and death. Seriously, this place is great. Excellent, one-of-a-kind vegan cold cuts, sausages, cheeses, etc., plus delicious sandwiches made to order. The staff is friendly and super helpful. The interior is a fun space with nice details. They also sell some nice swag: hats, shirts, stickers. It's a gem of a place, well worth a visit.

I had bacon from The Herbivorous Butcher at a local restaurant and absolutely had to have more! I got their breakfast sandwich, which was huge! Fluffy tofu and delicious vegan sausage with a tangy red pepper sauce. Delicious!

New to the Mpls area and stopped at the Herbivorous Butcher stand at the Minnesota State Fair (tried visiting at the Vikings game, but they had just experienced a fire at their brick & mortar store downtown). I ordered the "Dude Where's My Strips" bacon fried chicken strips with Ranchy Romance dipping sauce. Absolutely mind-blowing! Even shared with my kids and they thought I accidentally bought real chicken tenders. These things were crispy, and flavorful, not too salty or greasy, and the dilly sauce was creamy and delicious. Instantly my favorite thing I've had at the fair and I can't wait to visit their store soon. I hope their shop recovers quick from their recent fire.

This is a small local deli-style joint specializing in vegan meats and cheese, also selling some sandwiches, brats, and vegan baked goods as well. I went here for the first time recently and really enjoyed their sriracha bratwurst and also their havarti cheese. I look forward to returning back and trying more items.

I first went to herbivorous butcher on a business trip to Minneapolis - maybe 8 years ago. Well fast forward and we are still ordering online from them years later since we don’t live in Minnesota. My husband adores the pastrami! As a long time vegan of 28 years, I have tried many faux meats and cheeses and I think they do an exemplary job. They are super creative people with a vision. I don’t know how they have the time to do everything they do- start a vegan butcher shop; start a farm sanctuary; write a cookbook; open more vegan restaurants… just wow!

I can't believe I've not reviewed this place before. Hands down a transformative culinary experience. My go-to place for me to substitutes, I've never seen or heard of a another place like it. Really one of a kind!. You can enjoy their products at many other restaurants in the twin cities and I think it has become the backbone of me to substitutes, vegan and vegetarian options throughout the twin cities.

About

The Herbivorous Butcher is a fully vegan butcher shop and deli at 507 1st Ave NE in Northeast Minneapolis, open Tuesday through Sunday, selling handcrafted plant-based meats, artisan vegan cheeses, and ready-made deli sandwiches. It made history in 2016 as America's first vegan butcher shop, founded by siblings Aubry and Kale Walch. The Korean BBQ ribs are the most-ordered item: smoky, tender, and convincing enough to convert skeptics. The Italian sausage snaps with a proper casing bite and works in pasta, pizza, or grilled on a bun. On the cheese side, the aged cheddar is sharp and crumbly, the havarti melts clean, and the pepperjack delivers real heat. The deli counter serves ready-made sandwiches -- the Italian sub with house-made salami and provolone is the Northeast favorite. Q: Is The Herbivorous Butcher fully vegan? A: Yes, 100%. Every product in the shop -- meats, cheeses, sandwiches, and grab-and-go items -- is completely plant-based and animal-free. Q: What should I order at The Herbivorous Butcher? A: First-timers should try the Korean BBQ Ribs and the Italian Sub. For cheese, the aged cheddar and havarti are the top sellers. The deli counter is the fastest way to eat on-site. Q: Is The Herbivorous Butcher open on Sundays? A: Yes, Sundays 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Tuesday through Saturday hours are 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Closed Mondays.
