The vibe
Intimate and polished fine dining room on Payne Avenue -- seasonal, vegetable-forward, and serious without being stuffy. One of the best restaurants in Saint Paul, period.

“And as a last note they did have this wonderful special beverage that I did not get but I was incredibly pleased to see it was a health potion that without alcohol gave you plus two to health, but with alcohol you took a hit of minus two”
A vegan custard with great flavor, though the texture is more of a mush/goop.

Overall notes: We had such a great date night here! The staff is very solid. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. What was cool about it is it felt genuine and not forced. An anonymous dinner guest ended up covering our bill which was a huge gift for sealing the goodness of the evening! When our server told us, she was so delighted she started tearing up. As for overall notes on the food, the presentation was immaculate and I loved how they play with flavors on their menu! The date night special was a great deal to try many dishes and get a tasting menu experience. Our order (date night special, with a burger added) Drinks: -Ron Swanson (Rye Old Fashioned) - Very good sipper!! -Local Beer from Bad Weather Brewing Teasers: -East Fried Pride (Pork Belly, Stone fruit, peanut) 10/10, loved this. -GoldiLox (Smoked Salmon, Wasabi, Shallot) really delicious, good contrast with the slightly heavier pork teaser Mezze Course: -Smash Burger, we saw someone else order it and it looked too good to pass up Small Plates: -Fried Smashed Potatoes, very crispy! The white horseradish sauce was the star of the dish and I wished there was a bit more of it. -Chicken and waffles, soooooo yummy. The hot honey was amazing next to the sweetness of the waffle. Probably my favorite bite of the night! -Fried Chicken Buns, delish! -Steamed pork buns, some of my favorite sauces were with this one Dessert: -Ode to the Dome: Sadly, we did not love this, the tart cream was a whipped buttermilk and it was too sour and the dark chocolate ganache was too rich without something to cut it. The peanut brittle was extremely sticky making it hard to chew. But I know other people love it! It just wasn’t for us.
Service was amazing, very kind and courteous. They do consider your dietary needs and can make things gluten free or vegan, which is so nice! The cauliflower shareable dish was delicious (made vegan). At the time I went I had the Vegasm which was a mushroom oyster dish with a seaweed side salad, the seaweed flavor took over the whole dish - I wouldn't get that again. Though my friend loved the ramen. My husband said the smash burger was really good!
This was our first time in and it was awesome!! The team was super attentive and gave great service! The drinks were great and the food was delicious! The best presentation of chicken and waffles I have ever had! I will be back on a day I don’t have to work and pick away at that cocktail list as they all sounded great! Thanks for an awesome brunch!! Next time I’ll take pictures!
Visited this place for the nth time to have lunch with some friends. All the staff were incredibly friendly. The venue is exceedingly clean and just feels nice to be inside of. The menu is fantastic. We shared a bunch of small plates including but not limited to the crispy chicken and the pork belly. Both of which were quite delicious. We also tried a couple of the bites which were wonderful. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking brunch, lunch, or dinner. And as a last note they did have this wonderful special beverage that I did not get but I was incredibly pleased to see it was a health potion that without alcohol gave you plus two to health, but with alcohol you took a hit of minus two. Super clever. Loved to see it. Will be going back again for the nth plus time.
Sometimes what's old becomes new again. We ate here quite a while ago, but a colleague reminded me about this lovely restaurant. We had a great meal. First, the cocktails are excellent. The cocktail menu is broken down by flavor profile. I chose a French Kiss from the tart category. It is made with gin, lime, ginger, aperol, and bubbly. It was a great cocktail! My husband's cocktail was also great. Their bartenders know what they are doing! I heartily recommend you get at least two teasers per person. We shared the shroomin, which was a yummy mushroom custard topped with delicately fried enoki mushrooms. This is sensational. We also had the East Side Pride, which was a meaty slab of crispy pork belly topped with a fruity mixture that perfectly offset the salty pork belly. Next time we will each get our own! Also fantastic were the small plates. I wish we had gotten 2 for each of us. The yellowfin tuna tostada was great, the fish fresh and the flavors complex. I loved the steamed pork buns, topped with a fruit salsa and peanuts. We both ended up getting the smash burgers. They were great, as were the fries. However, in retrospect, I would have preferred several small plates. The small plate food is just more interesting. What this does mean, however, is that you can go there for dinner and get something yummy, complex, and unusual, and your kids can happily eat an excellent hamburger and fries! They have a small but interesting dessert selection. I opted for the berries and cream panna cotta. It was really yummy! This place was super busy, so I recommend reservations. However, you can often get same-day reservations. One cannot always plan one month in advance! There are many things to love about this restaurant. I love their cocktails. The food is super interesting, tasty, and creative, but there are also great choices for pickier eaters. It is super easy to park. I find this a huge plus. It was fun to rediscover this great restaurant! I highly recommend it!
We go out to eat often. Probably too often. It takes a lot to truly stand out at this point, and this place absolutely did. Every bite was delicious. A special shout-out to the teasers, which we almost skipped because we weren’t totally sure what they were from the menu. They’re small, perfectly crafted bites and honestly one of the highlights of our meal. Don’t sleep on them. The cocktails were incredibly balanced, creative without being weird for the sake of it, and the flight option is a dangerously delightful idea. The atmosphere is casual, cozy, and genuinely welcoming, the kind of place that immediately makes you want to settle in and stay awhile. Food-wise, the pad thai salad was a fresh, satisfying take on a classic. The jerk cauliflower hit the ideal balance of spice and flavor. Service was fantastic across the board. Our waiter was knowledgeable and gave helpful guidance. Also, every staff member who passed our table checked in and made sure we had what we needed. A small but much-appreciated touch was fresh silverware and plates between courses. It’s the kind of detail that quietly tells you they care. This place is an absolute gem in East St. Paul. A true standout and one we won’t soon forget. I’m already looking forward to going back.
Placebos flight: 10/10, no notes, delicious Pork belly teaser: 8.5/10, delicious crust, ours was very chewy Blueberry teaser: 7/10, initial taste was just olive oil Fries & Fixings: 7/10 (we had to sub the cheese sauce for jerk sauce bc I am GF, definitely would have been better with cheese) Cheeseburger: 7.5/10, nothing special GF bun with cheeseburger: 10/10, soft, delicious Ramen with pork: 7/10, fresh but ramen just isn’t my favorite to begin with
The food isn't just good. It will heal you. I'm not sure what I can say that hasn't already been said about this place. Since everything is amazing, I'll review the most transformed dish. The most blah thing you've probably had before, that's been elevated is the polenta. I would've snapped a photo but there wasn't time. I did have the discipline to photograph the Daikon Pad Thai salad and the Ramen, though. Enjoy!
The food and people working were absolutely fantastic! Everything is so fresh and the flavors are very balanced. Highly recommend for anyone. They have a lot of options for meat lovers to vegan. Many flights and starters. Craft cocktails are well done too! Brunch on weekends have many combo options so you can try many different things all in one visit.
My partner and I went here to celebrate our anniversary. The staff made it very special for us! Everyone was absolutely wonderful. The food was incredible. We got the date night special, and each item was better than the next. My particular favorite was the gnocchi and the pork belly buns. The cocktails were to die for, I could have had nothing but the Erroneous Negroni-ous all night long 😅 This place is special and I'm not surprised it's been around as long as it has. cant wait to come back! Thank you tounge in check team for the very special experience ❤️
