Really cute place β the cauliflower wings with sweet chili sauce were awesome β we also tried a black bean burger and gyro wrap and they were just okay. Iβd go back for the cauliflower and would like to try some other menu items β the bowls likely good option for us as the bread (buns, pita) was our main complaint on sandwiches. Service also great β employees very pleasant!
I quite enjoyed the vibes here! Most of the food I got was great! The cauliflower wings were fantastic, and the ranch dipping sauce was so good that Iβd come back just to have it again with fries (I even asked for extra to go!). The chickinβ burger didnβt hit the spot for me but the carrot cake was rich and delicious, and I also loved one of the big frosted cookies. Great space and energy! I left very happy and look forward to returning for the popular shakes and more!
Iβve been to J. Selbyβs twice now, and both times were fantastic. The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch. My favorite dishes by far were the Crunchwrap and the Animal Friesβboth absolutely delicious and super satisfying. If youβre in Minneapolis and looking for amazing plant-based comfort food, I highly recommend checking this place out!
Well-run vegan restaurant with an impressive menu and a non-trivial selection of tap beer. I've had several of their fake meat dishes, and have been regularly impressed. When they first opened over a year ago, they hadn't quite figured out the art of veggie burgers, but they have since improved greatly. Their cauliflower wings and vegan bacon are great, as is their fake cheese (I say this as a regular vegetarian who loves real cheese). Prices may seem a bit steep, but they don't do tips here so it's not as bad as it looks. As for the service, it's always been good and everyone is friendly. One thing to note: there's no parking lot so you have to find a place on the street.
I ordered a single burger for takeout and showed up like 20+ minutes late due to the ridiculous traffic in the Twin Cities; despite it being sort of cold due to my own miscalculation, it was one of the best vegan burgers I've had. Hands down. I'll just have to not order during peak traffic. I finished it all before I was even half way home and really, the drive cost more energy than the burger gave back but, im glad I got to try Selbys. Restaurants that are purely vegan, are one of the only truly good things in this entire state. And animal sanctuaries. The rest... Is up for debate. Thank you to the workers, customers, investors, etc. for offering this type of food, that doesn't require violence to enjoy. Thank you.
I always love a plant based restaurant! The chicken bacon ranch wrap was perfect and would be great with some extra sauce for dipping. We were not as big a fan of the mac n cheese. We got the frostbites, which are a thicker version of a milkshake. I wasnβt such a fan of these either, they tasted a little chemically to me.
Constantly floored with how far vegan food has come. I'm an omnivore, but my partner is a vegetarian. This restaurant makes her feel heard and that means the world to me. I've had vegan family members so I've grown up eating and hating vegan food. I don't like food simulations, I'd rather just have a naturally vegetarian meal that isn't trying to be "like" anything... but this last Friday I had the chick'n(sp?) sandwich and... I had to sit back. That dang sandwich tasted like a heckin chicken fillet that was battered and everything! I was amazed! Had to reevaluate my stance on everything. Of course, the fact that they go with Herbivorous Butcher is huge. Those geniuses know what they're doing. The animal fries were delicious, but were a bit too salty for my taste. The caramelized onions on them were a nice touch, just don't need as much salt in the sauce as they had. I'll take a fried chicken sandwich over a vegan chicken sandwich any day, but to make my partner feel welcomed and at home, that dang fried chicken sandwich is the real deal and I'll say yes to it any day. Well done, J. Selby's!
Food was good! Would go back for sure. Got a variety of things which were all pretty tasty. Service was a little clunky but didn't bother me. Everyone was very nice and I liked the atmosphere. I ordered my go to favorite flavors (I was very tired and just couldn't venture into the unknown lol) Buffalo "Chicken" wrap Mac-n-Cheese Chili Fries I'm definitely going to go back and try some of their more creative dishes which look amazing. Overall a solid place! π
J. Selbyβs is hands down one of my favorite spots in St. Paul. Over time, Iβve worked my way through just about everything on the menu, and while every single dish is creative, flavorful, and satisfying, there is one item that always pulls me back: the breakfast burger. No matter what else I try, it ends up being my number one choice every time. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the service is consistently kind, and the food is so thoughtfully prepared that even non-vegans leave impressed. Whether you are stopping in for a quick bite, a casual brunch, or just to indulge in some comfort food done right, J. Selbyβs never disappoints. It has become a true staple for me, and I always look forward to coming back.
Fried mushrooms- breading is so good. The mushrooms have a meaty texture which goes good with it. The "ranch" it comes with doesn't taste like ranch, but it's good as it's own sauce. Steak sandwich- I got this with cheese sauce instead of horseradish aioli. Not sure if I asked for that or it was a special. I did not care for the cheese sauce. After scraping off most of the cheese sauce, the sandwich was good! Could have used way more meat & veg, but I like bread too. Animal fries- Again, didn't like the cheese sauce, so kind of ruined these. The pieces with just the special sauce on it were delicious. It might be like thousand Island. Next time I would get no cheese sauce, extra special sauce. And maybe on the side so fries don't get so soggy. Gyro- boyfriend said it was okay. Mushroom (wild rice?) soup- Didn't care for it at all at the restaurant. But after my leftovers were in the fridge a couple days, it was great! Not sure if flavors just needed to melt or if my mood changed. Honestly not worth it for the price. But want to support that kind of business, so kind of makes it better. Will return as a treat to try more stuff and get more mushrooms.
