A plant-based steak-style sandwich, also referred to as a chopped cheese steak.

A signature plant-based burger. While one review mentions a 'chickin' burger', another complains about a burger being too wet with sauce.
A thick, plant-based milkshake dessert, also referred to as a Frostbite. Mentioned as a popular item.
A wrap filled with plant-based 'chicken' (soy curls) and buffalo sauce. A chicken bacon ranch version is also mentioned.

We were so excited to try it out being a vegan place. Only 3 stars for food. Although they were kind enough to refund my overcooked BLT due to excessive oil/fat, my stomach couldn't take it and I lost my passion to eat there. We ordered Chicken sandwich, Steak sandwich, Mels ranch wrap, Wings and BLT. Except BLT and Steak sandwich other food were ok. For the cost of food, I was expecting something better. The staff were very courteous and willing to take feedback. Parking is a bit challenging.
Beautiful restaurant with amazing plant based food. I was so hungry and excited to try it out I forgot to take my pre meal photo! I had a delicious buffalo wrap-my BF had the Cesar salad. The Soy curls on both were delicious! If they have coffee cake I’d strongly suggest you get a couple of those as well! A must try in MSP area for vegan eaters and omnivores alike
Constantly floored with how far vegan food has come. I'm an omnivore, but my partner is a vegetarian. This restaurant makes her feel heard and that means the world to me. I've had vegan family members so I've grown up eating and hating vegan food. I don't like food simulations, I'd rather just have a naturally vegetarian meal that isn't trying to be "like" anything... but this last Friday I had the chick'n(sp?) sandwich and... I had to sit back. That dang sandwich tasted like a heckin chicken fillet that was battered and everything! I was amazed! Had to reevaluate my stance on everything. Of course, the fact that they go with Herbivorous Butcher is huge. Those geniuses know what they're doing. The animal fries were delicious, but were a bit too salty for my taste. The caramelized onions on them were a nice touch, just don't need as much salt in the sauce as they had. I'll take a fried chicken sandwich over a vegan chicken sandwich any day, but to make my partner feel welcomed and at home, that dang fried chicken sandwich is the real deal and I'll say yes to it any day. Well done, J. Selby's!
Really cute place — the cauliflower wings with sweet chili sauce were awesome — we also tried a black bean burger and gyro wrap and they were just okay. I’d go back for the cauliflower and would like to try some other menu items — the bowls likely good option for us as the bread (buns, pita) was our main complaint on sandwiches. Service also great — employees very pleasant!
J Selby's is a cozy little neighborhood eatery, conveniently located on the Metro B bus line. The room inside is spacious and well lit with plenty of tables to choose from. You have the convenience of ordering at the front or at the QR code on your table. I ordered my main meal upfront, and my dessert via QR code - no issues. Service was attentive, fast, and sweet. You can tell from how they talk with their customers that they care about them -- and from the fact that they offer a community bowl, a donated meal, to folks in need. It's also one of the cheapest entrees priced on their menu, in case you're interested in dining out, but can't spend too much. Onto the food: this is my bad, but I asked the cashier a recommendation for an app between the mushrooms and the animal fries. She suggested mushrooms, and these are locally sourced lion's manes--the best of the best. My first few bites were fantastic. Meaty, chewy, fresh. And there were TONS of them. This would be a lot of food even for two people! When the mushrooms cooled down a bit, I noticed that they tasted quite salty and had a vague chicken taste. This is because they are... chickin fried. I can't believe I missed that. Personally, I like fried mushrooms with not a lot of seasoning, so that's my only knock against them, otherwise they're pretty perfect, and again that's my fault for not reading the menu more closely. My main meal was the banzai bowl which is a current special, a hearty savory stirfry with plenty of vegetables, pineapple, and delectable tofu. The only thing I didn't like about it was the broccoli in the dish tasted a little too crisp, like it hadn't been sauteed with the rest of the other ingredients. I'm not sure if it was because I was craving ice cream, but by far and away, the oatmilk based frostbite was my favorite of the night. Creamy, sweet, delicious, everything your heart desires. With generous portion sizes, great service, and a diverse menu, there's a lot to love about J. Selby's. If you're still anxious to try plant-based food, check out their happy hour specials, which are reasonably priced. I did not order off the HH menu, which is the only reason why my total was so high.
Fried mushrooms- breading is so good. The mushrooms have a meaty texture which goes good with it. The "ranch" it comes with doesn't taste like ranch, but it's good as it's own sauce. Steak sandwich- I got this with cheese sauce instead of horseradish aioli. Not sure if I asked for that or it was a special. I did not care for the cheese sauce. After scraping off most of the cheese sauce, the sandwich was good! Could have used way more meat & veg, but I like bread too. Animal fries- Again, didn't like the cheese sauce, so kind of ruined these. The pieces with just the special sauce on it were delicious. It might be like thousand Island. Next time I would get no cheese sauce, extra special sauce. And maybe on the side so fries don't get so soggy. Gyro- boyfriend said it was okay. Mushroom (wild rice?) soup- Didn't care for it at all at the restaurant. But after my leftovers were in the fridge a couple days, it was great! Not sure if flavors just needed to melt or if my mood changed. Honestly not worth it for the price. But want to support that kind of business, so kind of makes it better. Will return as a treat to try more stuff and get more mushrooms.
Well-run vegan restaurant with an impressive menu and a non-trivial selection of tap beer. I've had several of their fake meat dishes, and have been regularly impressed. When they first opened over a year ago, they hadn't quite figured out the art of veggie burgers, but they have since improved greatly. Their cauliflower wings and vegan bacon are great, as is their fake cheese (I say this as a regular vegetarian who loves real cheese). Prices may seem a bit steep, but they don't do tips here so it's not as bad as it looks. As for the service, it's always been good and everyone is friendly. One thing to note: there's no parking lot so you have to find a place on the street.
J Selby's is my favorite place for nachos, Cesar salad, cauliflower wings and fries. AMAZING I DRIVE OVER 45 MINUTES JUST TO EAT HERE. The entire restaurant is vegan/plant based. Select dishes are gluten free. It is a dream for someone that is diary free🤩
Loved the Sunday brunch here! Breakfast burger and pancakes were delicious and I would definitely return for them. Easy ordering system. There is a service charge rather than a traditional tipping system.
Delicious! Wow!! We shared the buffalo “chicken” wrap, chopped cheese steak and chocolate cake. All vegan. Absolutely delicious! We will be back!
