I’ve only been to a few vegan restaurants in Minneapolis, but Trio Plant Based is by far the best I’ve experienced. I had their "chckn" sandwich, made with oyster mushrooms and seasoned with lemon pepper, and it was better than some actual chicken sandwiches I’ve had. The house-made ranch is to die for, and their lemonade is so soothing, I ended up ordering about five of them while I was there. But what really won me over were the cauliflower wings. I’ll be getting them every time, and of course, I had to get the lemon pepper seasoning on them. I’m not vegan or vegetarian, but I’d gladly travel again in -20-degree weather just for their food. I highly recommend it, even if you're not vegan or vegetarian!
Got food to go. Forgot to check if there was a service charge for that. 5 stars automatically for being local, plant based, black owned business. Cauliflower wings: Really good. My non-vegan mom said the ranch was the best dipping sauce she ever had (I thought it was good!). By the time I got back to my house with food, breading was soft, but it was still delicious. Leftovers I heated up in toaster oven we're bomb. Ranch only stays good for a day or two. Fried Chicken: Not listed on menu online. Pretty good, Mostly breading, but that's what I like. Haha. Would get again Rib: Very impressive! Would definitely get again if need some ribs. Corn bread: Very much a corn bread, not corn cake. Has the denser, thicker crumb, which went great with the rib. Good, would get again. Mac & Cheese: Good, kinda plain. Would get again though. Coleslaw: Really good, but kind of doesn't match the rest of the food. I think there is tahini in it, which gives it a very different vibe. Would get again still. Greens: Very good, but almost "too much" flavor eating by itself for me. It is super smoky. I can see having a little in a big bowl of the Mac and cheese, like the bowl. But not sure how much greens they put in that. Only get again if have something else to balance the flavor. Yams: Okay, too much nutmeg for me. Had to put a bunch of butter on them. Wouldn't get again. Peach Cobbler: Way too much nutmeg. Inedible.
This is some of the best vegetarian food I’ve ever had! The cauliflower wings with lemon pepper rub were amazing, and the homemade ranch was perfect. We also got the southwest “chicken” salad which had great flavor and crunch. My sister and I were visiting from Phoenix and so glad to find such high quality vegetarian food in the area.
My boyfriend and I have always supported this restaurant since they’ve first opened back in 2018. When we want a little taste of southern home cooking that he grew up with, we always order from here. This most recent order we placed was through DoorDash and by the time we received it, the restaurant had already closed. Half of our order was WRONG. If you review the receipt and the food we received, you can see I was so disappointed. Not sure how you mistake a buffalo chicken wrap & Cajun fries with just cauliflower wings. We couldn’t call the restaurant to get it fixed because they had already closed by 7:15pm Friday night and we received our DoorDash order at 7:35pm. This was not the Doordasher’s fault. I went to bed hungry and disappointed. I understand that mistakes can be made but I do hope that this does not happen to anyone else that chooses to place a delivery order. I’d like to continue supporting this restaurant but now I’m worried to place a delivery order at the risk of getting the wrong food again 😮💨
Fantastic casual vegan restaurant. I got the cauliflower wings and a classic cheeseburger with a side of cajun fries. The wings were delightfully spicy and the ranch a perfect light dip to balance it. As a vegetarian I’ve eaten a lot of different meatless burgers but this one truly captures the beauty of a cheeseburger. Every time I go back I remember just how good it is. I hope Trio thrives for many years to come.
I've gone two days in a row. A must-stop for me now. Cauliflower wings were on points - crispy, flaky and seasoned perfectly. I did lemon pepper. unreal. Mac Attack burger - my god. Add in some of that bbq sauce. I'm not a bbq person, but this made me a believer. It's smoky, tangy, sweet with a little heat. All of the sauces are on point. Serious flavor in here! The chocolate chip is BIG. It's like a dang pancake.
I adore this restaurant so much. My favorites are the fried chick'n sandwich and the loaded fries. Louis and Angel were lovely, and it was so good to chat with them about the vegan food scene in the Twin Cities. The location cannot be beat. I rode my bike on the Midtown Greenway then Bryant then a few blocks on Lake (most dicey part) to arrive. There were convenient bike racks right in front, and the restaurant has gorgeous open windows where you can people watch (and frown at all the drivers deciding to ride in the bus only lane). I can't wait to go back!
Had a wonderful dining experience at Trio! We had the cauliflower wings, walnut taco salad, and fiesta burger. Everything was so fresh and delicious! Highly recommend!
Have been meaning to try Trio for years and finally decided to order takeout for lunch today. I wasn’t disappointed! Such comforting and hearty food on this rainy food. I loved the jackfruit ribs. So succulent! The mac and cheese was creamy and delightful. Wish it had a bit more flavor though. The cornbread was moist and savory. The yams were sweet and tender. I devoured my meal, and I’ll be back for more!
Got the 5 item rib plate. Everything 100% vegan. Everything 100% amazing flavor. The Mac and cheese was as cream as the real thing! The slaw and greens were good. The greens had more of tasty spiced flavor than the traditional vinagery flavor. Terrific in its own right. The corn bread was maple flavored and so delish with some kinda vegan butter on top. The sauce for the ribs was perfect as well. You can tell all of it was made with great care and love. 10/10 I would come back. A friend recommended this place to me and it lived up to the hype. I can’t wait to go back and try something new next time.
