The vibe

Loud and unapologetically pizza-forward -- the coal oven is the star and the char on the crust is exactly what Neapolitan pizza should be.

BEST coal fired pizza in MSP. Stumbled upon this place while driving through the area and its a hidden gem. The pizza is incredible so are the salads. This has been a fan favorite for office dinners or just a casual pizza party.

I came to Northloop looking for the best pizza in the city, and Black Sheep Pizza had the audacity to actually deliver, I wasn't easy to impress — but here we are. Walked in during the day to a refreshingly quiet dining room. No chaos, no waiting, no elbowing strangers for a table. Just peace, tranquility, and the faint crackle of a coal-fired oven doing the Lord's work in the background. My server was friendly, knowledgeable, and handed me a menu tour like a seasoned guide leading me through the wilderness. When I found myself paralyzed between two pizzas — a completely reasonable crisis — he swooped in with the genius suggestion of half and half. Sir, you have solved problems that world leaders could not. The pizza arrived. The root beer did not. Turns out my guy forgot it, but to his credit, he owned it immediately and didn't even try to blame the oven. Respect. The root beer eventually made it, and all was forgiven the moment I took my first bite. The pizza? Coal-fired perfection. The texture, the flavor, the heat — just enough to make you question every life choice that kept you away this long. I'm pretty sure I shed a tear. I'm not ashamed. Black Sheep, you've made a believer out of me. I'll be back — and next time, I'm ordering the root beer first.

Service was prompt and tentative. Pizza came out and was cooked perfectly. Crispy bottom with just enough flop to it. Ordered a simple pepperoni. Sauce is light and refreshing. Cheese had very good flavor. Pepperoni were on the mild side but worked well with all the flavors. The crust had nice spots of char without being over cooked.

Update: We went back and had a fantastic meal!! We got the ricotta meatball pizza. The crust was flavorful and perfectly thin and crispy. We also got the roasted vegetables. Emily (who was awesome!!) recommended them to us, and we are so glad we took her up on her suggestion! They may not sound very exciting, but WOW so tasty and delicious! We will definitely go back and get the roasted vegetables again. Original: The mushroom skewer was good! The mushroom pizza we got was just okay. Maybe because of all the water released by the mushrooms, the bottom crust was kind of soggy.

I have been coming to this north loop location for the last decade or so, and every time has been a very enjoyable experience that I have always been happy to share with friends and family over the years. Place has a very unique vibe to it that brings a nice atmosphere to this pizza shop, the food over the years has always been superb, and has always stayed up to date with pizza trends (ex. Hot Honey!) - servers here are always the best and will ensure that any problems that arise are promptly resolved to your satisfaction! Here's to another decade of great north loop pizza!

Really good pizza. It wasn’t even very hot because we had it Uber Eats delivered but I could have crushed an entire pizza by myself. Surprisingly the cheese pizza was really good. Not usually a fan of just cheese but this was great. Nice chew to the crust. Good sauce. Good toppings on the others. Nice slight coal fired flavored. Definitely a win. The rest of the city is crap but this place is good.

I loved everything about Black Sheep! Pizza is fantastic, as well as the service. Very tasty vegetarian and vegan options and a wonderful beer and cocktail selection.

Service in atmosphere are a hit or miss depending on the time of day that you go it’s extremely busy in the evenings and on the weekends so if you do not have reservations or somewhat preplanned so you’re not waiting in there waiting area for too long on waitlist. I do prefer to eat in, but it is as I have said quite busy often so I do get this to go more often than that and it travels quite well.
